Make $ the clean way!

In our everyday lives, we are exposed to elements that we can't avoid. They are harmful to ourselves and the environment.  Shaklee is a company that offers solutions that are safe for you,
your home, and your planet.  I interviewed Jennifer Poston (JP) with Shaklee to learn more about the business opportunity.

30daysof: What is the name of your business?
JP: Poston Partners in Health (Shaklee)

30daysof: Why did you get started in this business?

JP: The timing was right for us, along with an incredible first impression of the company and products.  My husband had just lost his teaching job and we were floundering as to what to do for money.  Also, the more we looked into the company, the more impressed we were by it's history, the science behind the products, their priorities about caring for the environment and people's health, and their ethics.  We knew it was something we wanted to share with other people, and we loved that we could make money doing it!

30daysof: Is there a start up cost? Describe the start up cost and what you need to do to qualify for promotion or revenues, trips, cars?
JP: There are 3 ways to start, ranging from $19.95 to $299.  The higher the level you choose to start, the more opportunities there are to make significant amounts of money.  The great thing about the highest level ($299) is that what you are paying for is mostly products that you get to keep yourself, to begin familiarizing yourself with the products.  The concept is that it's hard to sell something you don't use and believe in yourself!

There are always MANY opportunities for earning incentives.  There are trips that you can qualify for through doing different business activities and earning points for the trip through them.  The company likes to see their distributors succeed, and it shows!  You move up in "ranks" in the company simply by growing your business--through your customer base and the people you train to build a business "under" you.

30daysof: How do you stay motivated? Books, quotes, people who inspire, etc...
JP: Staying connected is crucial in this type of business.  It is easy slack off when no one is looking over your shoulder.  In Shaklee there are so many ways to stay connected!  I have an incredible mentor who has become a good friend, and she calls and checks in on me frequently.  She holds meetings at her house and over the phone with her business builders so we can support each other and continue to learn.  There are online meetings as well as conference calls.  I also have a variety of books that have been recommended to me by those who mentor me, that I can refer to when I need a mental boost.

30daysof: What is your favorite product or the best selling product (service) you offer?
JP: I personally love all of our products, but there are two lines that are especially necessary in our family, and that are very popular with my customers.  One is our green cleaning line, which many people are interested in because of the surge in eco-awareness.  The other is our weight-loss/management line called Cinch, which is different than many other weight-loss products out there because of the emphasis on losing weight WHILE keeping you lean muscle.  Shaklee even has a "Biggest Loser" competition going right now for those using the Cinch products, and the prizes are big money!

30daysof: What is your biggest challenge in marketing your business?
JP: The cost.  Because our products are the highest quality, they are not your Walmart prices!  It is sometimes hard to show people that you get what you pay for, especially with things like vitamins.  People don't realize they are not all created equal, and that some can even be harmful!

30daysof: How do you get paid?
JP: Shaklee has 5 ways total that they pay people.  It is easiest to explain it using visuals that I have online, so if people want details I show them those.  The great thing, though, is that I don't have to keep track of ANY of it myself.  Shaklee keeps track of it for me, and I just get my check every month with my statement.  It is a very easy business to maintain money-wise!

30daysof: Is there room for advancement (growth)?
JP: Definitely, that is part of what drew my husband and I to it!  There is no "glass ceiling".  You can give yourself a raise anytime you want, as long as you are willing to put in the work to do it!

30daysof: Who is your competition? Other companies that sell the same products or services? Why did you choose yours?
JP: Melaleuca is one of them.  I haven't personally looked too much into it...I just know how over-the-top impressed I am by Shaklee and their products!

30daysof: How can someone contact you to learn more about the product?
JP: They can visit my website at http://shaklee.net/kjposton

Make $ painting hands and feet!

You can make money doing whatever you love,  even if you paint fingers and toes!  I interviewed artist, Lollie Kienz of Fullerton who paints hands and foot prints of your children and turns them into art.

Piggies and Paws is a home party business which focuses on the creative preservation of children’s growth. Our main service is to provide a fun and creative way to preserve children’s hand and foot prints. Unlike casting and plaster impressions, which are typically done only in a child’s first year, our hand and foot art can be done throughout a child’s lifetime, actually documenting their growth.

30 days of: What is the name of your business?

Lollie Kientz: Piggies and Paws.  I create custom, frameable artwork out of the hand and footprints of children.

30 days of: Why did you get started in this business?
Lollie Kientz: I am a person that truly loves creative projects and my number one priority is being a mom.  When I was pregnant with my second, I wanted something to keep me busy, bring in some extra cash, and ultimately let me stay home with my girls.  Piggies and Paws popped into my head one morning and I started the process of interviewing.  It was an absolute perfect fit.

30 days of: Is there a start up cost? Describe the start up cost and what you need to do to qualify for promotion or revenues, trips, cars?
Lollie Kientz: There is a start up cost that you learn more about in the process of interviewing.  You make your money back quickly.  There is no promotions or cars or incentives like that but there is also no big sales push.  I am not a big sales person at all so I really like how the company is structured like that.

30 days of: How do you stay motivated? Books, quotes, people who inspire, etc...
Lollie Kientz: I actually stay motivated by working on creative projects in between work.  Sometimes it can get monotonous so I just pull some other project out that I am working on for my girls or the house that I am really excited about and work on that.

30 days of: What is your favorite product or the best selling product (service) you offer?
Lollie Kientz: My best selling product is the only product I offer and that is the artwork itself.  There are hundreds of prints to choose from and all of them are unique and adorable.  Priceless!

30 days of: What is your biggest challenge in marketing your business?
Lollie Kientz: I actually have never marketed my business. Word of mouth is how I get my referrals.

30 days of: How do you get paid?
Lollie Kientz: I send everything into the company and they cut me a check.

30 days of: Is there room for advancement (growth)?
Lollie Kientz: Within your own business and booking galleries, yes.

30 days of:  Who is your competition? Other companies that sell the same products or services? Why did you choose yours?
Lollie Kientz: I am not aware of any other product or company like this one.

30 days of:
How can someone contact you or learn more about the company?
Lollie Kientz: You can learn more about the company through the website at piggiesandpaws.com.  I am the artist in Fullerton, Lollie Kientz, so you can contact me through the website too. Simply enter your zip code to find a piggies and paws artist in your area.

30 days of...Making Money Your Way

My idea of the ultimate life is to make money doing what you love.  For the month of April, the 30 days of...blog is featuring home businesses to help inspire you to make money YOUR way.

The remedy for creating a successful business person is not available by prescription...if it were pharmacuetical companies would be even wealthier.  I have found that the people whom I deem the most successful have passion for what they sell, they do it with integrity, and they are persistent and tenacious.

I interviewed 30 different home businesses owners and asked them the same questions about their product or service.  The businesses range from services such as prepaid legal services to products lines such as drinks, vitamins, candles or jewelry. I was shocked to learn all the various products out there.  May you be inspired by one of these businesses and start making money YOUR way!

30 days of...Great Dates Week 4 - Get your heart racing! GIVEAWAY!!

"I feel the need...the need for a speed!" said Maverick and Goose and they boarded their fighter plane in the movie, Top Gun. We all have the need for some speed and sharing the experience with the person you love is exciting. Dates #23 - #30 feature exhilarating activities to get your heart racing together!
Plus there is a FREE GIVEWAY mentioned at the end of the post so read on.

23. Hot Air Balloon Ride - In the city of Temecula, you can take a hot air balloon ride over the wineries. The trip provides gorgeous views from high up and as you descend you can reach over and touch the tops of the trees. This journey begins before the sun comes up and ends just in time for breakfast. Wilson Creek Winery offers champagne and a continental breakfast after the ride.

24. Palm Springs Aerial Tram - This should be one of the great wonders of the world. Within 10 minutes you experience the desert climate then mountain climate. During the winter, be prepared to play in the snow and sled down some hills. The rest of the year allows for great hiking and overnight camping. Either time it is a great time to share together.

25. Disneyland, California Adventure - this place is an even happier place when you leave the kids at home. Book a reservation at the California Grand Hotel.
There you can dine at a 5 star hotel, get a massage, lay by the pool, enjoy a band at the House of Blues, and ride California Screaming as many times as you want.

26. Skydive - Jumping out of a plane together will get your heart racing for sure. I did it once and had a blast! To see how I survived, view the video.

27. Planetarium - When I think about how big our universe is, it gets my heart racing. There are so many free telescope shows and exhibits you and your date can see in every state. In New York at the Museum of Natural History, the COSMIC COLLISIONS exhibit is a spectacular immersive theater experience, which launches visitors on a thrilling trip through space and time—well beyond the calm face of the night sky—to explore cosmic collisions, hypersonic impacts that drive the dynamic and continuing evolution of the universe.

28. Trapeze - Have you ever played the game, "Trust me?" You fall back into the person arms and see if they will catch you. If they don't catch you, then dump then right then and there. (That is after you get up.) In San Diego, Trapeze High is a trapeze training facility for people of all ages, abilities and skill levels. You and your date can do acrobats with each other high above the ground.

29. Go 180mph in your own RaceCar - At the California Speedway and other select tracks, you and your dates can ride in race car yourself or with an experienced driver. It will give you a whole new appreciation for the sport. And yes, racing is a sport, it isn't just a bunch of men turning left. (At least that is what my husband insists!)

30. Eat on the Top of the World - My best date was 11 years ago when my husband asked me to marry him. He took me to dine at the TOP of the WORLD in the Stratosphere Hotel. You could tell his heart was racing the whole night. In most major cities there is a High Rise Restaurant worth experiencing for the view and the food. Takami Sushi is located 21 floors above Downtown LA's Financial District, and is considered one of the most unique restaurant concepts Southern California has ever experienced. The Carnelian Room in San Francisco, features surrounding views of 360 degrees with award winning cuisine.

GIVEWAY!!! I am always looking for creative, romantic, and adventurous dating experiences. Please share your best date or share your idea of a perfect date. You will be entered to win 2 tickets to the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. Random drawing takes place on March 30th.

30 days of...Great Dates Week 3 - Get Down and Dirty

Dates 16 - 23 involves a little dirty behavior.
Now, get your mind out of the gutter for this is a
G-rated blog. When I say dirty, I literally mean dirty, as in covered or marked with an unclean substance. I happen to think getting dirty "with the methods described below" is the best way to laugh and let loose, getting you closer to each other. So have fun on any of these dirty dates below.

16. Do the MUDRUN - This is the World Famous Mud Run at Camp Pendleton! The Mud Run is a challenging 10K run with hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, two 5-foot walls with mud on both sides, tunnel crawl, slippery hill climb, and the final 30-foot mud pit. Along the course there will be 6 water points with personnel staged at each. This is the most fun you can have running a 10K! Register early becuase this event sells out at least 4 months in advance.

17. GEOCACHING - For those of you who love the amazing race, this is a fun adventure you and a date can do anytime. All you need is a GPS! Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

18. Bury each other at the beach - A day at the beach can not be beat. What better way to taunt your date than to bury them in some dirty sand. Take a picture and cherish the memory forever.

19. Get a BODY Massage in MUD - If a towel and a massage table suits you better than a 10-mile obstacle course, then opt for an all-body mud pack at your favorite spa. Better yet, pick up a bottle of Dead Spa Mineral Mud for $25. Put it on each other, sit out in the sun and get cracked-up while you are dirty.

20. Play Golf together - This is just a fun activity to do whether you can play or not. If you can't play, chances are you will end up in the sand or water. Actually that will happen even if you can play.

21. Play Paintball - Get your aggressions out in 37 acres of playing fields designed solely for paintball tournaments and escapades with your date.

22. WINE FESTIVALS- For I Love Lucy fans, the smashing grapes scene is unforgettable. Now, you too can smash grapes with your bare feet at your local winery. The Ponte Winery in Temecula hosts an annual festival and a WINE STOMP tournament in the Fall. Afterword, keep your shoes off and sit those bare-grape-stained feet and enjoy a picnic lunch in the middle of the vineyard. Bellisimo!

23 . HOT SPRINGS RESORT- After all the dirty dating you have participated in, a nice change is to visit one of California's Hot Springs. When one bathes in these luxuriant waters, after 3 - 4 minutes, millions of tiny bubbles cover one's skin. The CO2 and water penetrate one's skin and rapidly dilate one's capillaries, giving an incredible feeling of calm, warm, peace and tranquility. For a list of ALL the Hot Spring Locations throughout the Western United States, buy the guide, Hot Springs and Hot Pools of the Southwest, at AMAZON.com.

Now it is time to do some dirty dating. Please share any specific locations that would be of interest to other readers in the comments below.

30 days of...Great Dates Week 2 - Use Forethought

Ideally, we should celebrate Valentine's Day everyday - but Valentine's Day. February 14th was named after the person, St. Valentine. It made me wonder, what was so romantic about St. Valentine? Did he plan the perfect dates for his love? Who was this person that causes the men in this country to wait in a 30 minute line for a box of chocolate, stuffed bear and a balloon?
One theory about the man St. Valentine is, he was a Roman who was matyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14th , 269 A.D. He left a note and signed it "from your Valentine." The 2nd theory states that St. Valentine served as a priest at a temple when Emperor Claudius jailed him. The following emperor freed him and set February 14th as the date to honour the wrongly accused saint. This was in 496.
To summarize, because of one Roman Christian Priest who lived 2000 years ago, and literally, just signed his name on a piece of paper, men and women are destined to give and receive mandatory "messages" of affection on this day. I think not.

Below are romantic date ideas that will go down in "your" history books.
Dates 8-15 all include forethought.

8. Music Arrangement - When you take your date out to a place with music ie: piano bar, club, restaurant, provide the musician with your favorite song and a dedication to your date. When the song gets played, grab their hand and start dancing - or don't. The thought alone is enough.

9. The old with the new - If you want to give a piece of jewelry, place it in their childhood jewelry box. Better yet, ask the parents if they have a special heirloom to pass down and place the gift inside.

10. Don't peak - Blindfold your date and take them somewhere special. Warn others with a friendly sign which reads, "SSHHH, this is a surprise." When you are at your destination, remove the blindfold to reveal surprised eyes and a big smile.

11. Use your words - Write a poem or find a meaningful poem and read it to your date.

12. Romancing the food - Remember 9 1/2 weeks? The food? The blindfold? Need I say more?
So romantic, sexy and fun.

13. Be a Game Player - Set up the game of Twister, along with a gift of lingerie for each other. Or be really creative and make your own board game. Use your personal facts about each other as the trivia questions.

14. Pampered Spouse - Set up a massage table, foot sauna, or spa for the other. Have the music and the candles set.

15. Engrave it - St. Valentine wrote a message to his love 2000 years ago. He did it on paper before he died. Engrave your feelings onto a watch. A watch is guaranteed to last longer than the piece of paper he must have used.

Fear Factor Party

PARTY!

The show Fear Factor intrigues me.  The fact that mind over matter always prevails led me to throw a Fear Factor Party of my own.   The guest list consisted of 12 couples who were each given the same rules.  No other details of the event were shared to prevent any pre-practicing.  Once the guests arrived, they provided their team name, picked their color of bandana, and decorated each others faces with war paint.

The entry fee was a pitcher of their favorite mixed drink in which they received 10 points, but lost 25 points if they came empty handed.  They also lost 1 point for every minute they were late. We created 4 main events: You're such a baby, It's Hammertime, Eat it!, and Rock On!

"You're such a baby" details - Get 12 baby bottles and fill with a drink.  We chose beer.  Make sure to get the nipples with heavy flow. All participants must wear a bib. Once the person is finished with the bottle, their partner must eat a whole jar of baby food.  If the couple finishes each task, they each get 12 pts.  Team who finishes first, receives a bonus of 10 pts.

"It's Hammertime" details - Set up two "sawhorse" stations so guests can hit nails into wood. We stacked bricks and laid one heavy piece of wood across.  First the woman hit the three nails in.  Her partner could not start until she finished.  The fastest time received 12 points, 2nd place received 11 points, and so on.

"Eat it" details - We set up 5 platters ranging from gross (10 pts) to really gross (50 pts).  The items were fish eggs, sardines, escargot, chicken eggs (which was really guava), and baby octopus.  To enhance the experience, we put a raw octopus on the table, a raw pigs foot, as well as real "life" images of the items displayed on the table.   No order necessary, but full completion and digestion was mandatory in order to get points for the item.

"Rock On: details - Couples performed a song with RockBand.  One person sang, the other played one instrument, the guitar or drums. Players got to choose their song from the list provided. (I recommend printing out a list of the songs beforehand so the guests have an idea of what to sing.)  At the end of the performance a score is given, such as 43,000.  Use a chart to determine relative points.  0-10,000 = 10 points, 10,001 - 20,000 = 20 points, and so on.

"Bartendars Award" details - all the guests judged the mixed drinks and rated their top three, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The 1st place winner had 20 points added to their score as well as received a cash prize.  2nd and 3rd place finishers, had 10 and 5 points added to their scores respectively.

All in all the party was a success with a lot of surprises.  My best friend who did all the shopping and swore she wouldn't eat this stuff, threw back the jar of baby food, as well as swallowed every last bit of the fish eggs, sardines, snails and octopus.  Originally, her decorating skills impressed me but now I am completely impressed.  She is that amazing friend every person dreams of having.

Speaking of decorating, we have the good fortune of being friends with a Halloween lover.  She lent us her alien baby in a jar, giant spiders, bugs, fake fingers, and fake finger food.  Other items we decorated with were scary movie posters, skull heads, ARACHNIPHOBIA in the DVD player, and a skeleton with the head cavity opened and we filled it with dyed spaghetti strands to reflect a brain.

ALL in all, my friends did come very afraid of what to expect. (Don't they trust me?)  Some of them left proud at their bravery and skills, while others left grateful they wouldn't be getting salmonella. But as the hostess of the party whose greatest fear is to have a dud of a party, the fear factor party is my all-time favorite.

If you plan to host your own fear factor party, please share the details here.

Party On!
