Poem - Heaven's Very Special Child

I am always looking for quotes or poems to help me understand and get through difficult situations in life. One of the situations I look for understanding is when a child is born with a disability or syndrome for which there is no cure.  My friend whose children both have MPS - the San Fillipo Syndrome sent this beautiful poem to us as she is trying to raise awareness and funds to save her children's life.  If you can help, please visit, the website for TEAM BROWNE at www.mpsrun.com to donate your time or money.

HEAVEN's VERY SPECIAL CHILD

A meeting was held quite far from earth.
It's time again for another birth.  Said the angel to the Lord above.
This special child will need much love.

His progress may seem very slow, Accomplishments he may not show.
And he'll require extra care, from the folks down there.

He may not run or laugh or play.  His thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he won't adapt and he'll be known as handicapped.

So let's be careful where he's sent, we want his life to be content.
Please Lord find the parents who, will do this special job for you.

They may not realize right away, this leading roll they're asked to play.
But with this child sent from above, comes stronger faith and richer love.

And soon they'll know the priviledge given, in caring for this child from heaven.
Their precious child so meek, so mild, is heaven's very special child.

Thanks for the survival gift.

Wow! Did you feel that earthquake? (www.usgs.org)  What if the big one is next? Will you be prepared for the next unpredictable emergency that is definitely going to occur sometime in the future, somewhere? Have no fear because I have put together a list of items the Red Cross recommends in their emergency preparedness kits.  (available at www.redcross.org for $69.95.)
When I looked at the list I thought of an idea.  This would be a great gift for your family at the holidays, for a charity auction basket, or as a housewarming gift.  I mean what is better than the gift of life? (unless we are crushed before we can get to our survival kits.)
For survival, these are the basics the Red Cross says we will need for a family of 3 for 3 days.
1. A container or backpack
2. Battery Powered Flashlight (with batteries) and Battery Powered Radio (with batteries)
3. Emergency Blankets
4. Food Bars (1600 calories per person a day)
5. Work Gloves
6. Emergency Light Sticks
7. Moist Towelettes (18)
8. Breathing Masks (NIOSH - N95) or a Gas Mask
9. Plastic Sheeting (10'x10')
10. Rain Ponchos
11. Personal First Aid Kit (include prescription medication here)
12. Roll of Duct Tape
13. Water (2 quarts per person)
14. Water Container (2.5 gallon)
15. Whistles
16. Personal Hygiene Kit
17. First Aid and Emergency Preparedness Guide

Extras I added -  rubber shoes, tennis shoes, walkie-talkies,  phone numbers of family, cash, neck pillow, dog food, cat food, can opener, scissors.

Do you have any other items you think are necessary, please reply with your suggestions.  In the meantime, this is an event you and your family should know about called,  The Great California, SHAKE OUT. on November 13th, 10 am.

Hope this inspires you to get your kit together for you and your family.

Tatata,
TLC

Life should be a musical

"Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day, I got a wonderful feeling, everything's going my way."  (Imagine what your day would be like if you woke up every morning singing this?)
I just saw Mama Mia and as a lover of all musicals, it tops the list.  My expectations were set low because movies never compare to the "real" musicals performed on stage, but as with Chicago, I love the movie a little better. I brought my daughter (after learning it was appropriate for 8 year olds) and enjoyed her reaction immensely.  She thought it was hysterical when people would just start singing instead of conversing, and then everyone ends up participating in the song and dance, completely disregarding any responsibility they were partaking in at that moment.  Her comment was, "this is so weird, mom. Imagine if people did this in real life?"
So, the whole way home, my daughter and I sang our conversation instead of conversing.  It was funny, it made sitting in traffic "enjoyable" and our song, (although it won't top the charts) actually had a melody with a catchy tune.
I highly recommend the movie, Mama Mia and the CD available at itunes.com. It has all the
ABBA songs we grew to love and your children can now sing as well.
What movie musical is your favorite? Go see Mama Mia and determine if it beats out Moulan Rouge, Chicago,
Dreamgirls, Sound of Music?

About triciacohn.com

I created the website www.triciacohn.com not to bring attention to myself, but to limit the amount of business cards I hand out.   Secondly, for the past 10 years people ask me, "what do you do?"  The many responses to that question left friends and family thinking I am a schizo (is this term PC?)  In order to get my "left side" of my brain to relate to the "right siders" (most other people), a website with my name seemed the best solution.
The roles I perform are a creator, author, designer, and mom.  Absolutely none of the roles are possible without the support of my husband.  This first blog is dedicated to him.  I am so grateful for his love and support.  He has always wanted me to "be all I can be."   Now he says, "do the best you can do, to be the best you can be."
Being the best I can be is overwhelming. The journey seems long and never ending, but I am always up for a challenge, for there is nothing more rewarding than honest hard work and doing what you truly love.  I love creating and making a difference for others.
When you read my future blogs, my goal is to inspire dreams, to provoke conversation, to share ideas, and to make a difference for someone else - maybe you.
